I mean it's really their only other realistic alternative short of being picked up individually by the current P5. Of course, two problems here:

1. Just because you assemble all the best G5 schools in one conference doesn't mean they get to label themselves a P5 conference. P5 conferences are largely hallmarked based on the revenue they produce through TV contracts and other streams, sharing that revenue amongst all schools, thereby raising ability to afford facilities, coaches, support staffs, attract recruits, etc

2. We are already leaving one P5 conference out of a 4 team playoff. Adding a 6th conference is only going to exacerbate the bickering.
