I don't know about that but they still won the SEC 1972 because they played an extra game over Auburn (who beat them in the infamous Punt Bama Punt game). Looks like it was either Kentucky or Vanderbilt.

yeah, I found the same link and was about to post it - right under the "appointed games" it talks about the 2 AL vs Miss games that never counted as conference games
Bama always used to play one more SEC game than everybody & I knew that it helped them get a championship one year, but did not realize that it came at the expense of a team they had lost to...
and I was wrong about NC State - correct about Clemson & S Carolina...
