Some certainly involve repeated blows to the head and collisions with other objects to the head at a high rates of speed.

Football has changed dramatically in regards to high speed collision involving the helmet and head area.I'd say the vast majority I witness in the NFL or college
involve the upper torso in between the knees and head.

And are lineman REALLY colliding into each other at a "high rate of speed"?
