Cam Newton explains his cadence and checks at the line of scrimmage.

My god, I need to tighten up my arm chair QB skills.

Imagine doing all that with a play clock.

This is pretty standard in most systems. I don't think I've seen it in Muschamp's or Mac's as they didn't seem to trust their QB's. I don't know the last time a QB checked out of a play here. They just seem to run whatever play is called, even if it's running into a run blitz. Our QB's don't even know how to draw defenders offsides with cadence. Their own lineman don't seem to know tempo. The QBs here don't seem to know when a blitz is coming as well. It is frustrating watching them run right into a loaded side. Basic stuff that you learn in JV high school.

Shannon said he and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will work together to make the decision.

He seemed to indicate that along with catering the game plan to the QB, the Gators would also simplify what they’re asking either guy to do.

“We’ve got to put the quarterback in a situation where they’ll feel comfortable. We did a self scout and figured out what they can really do well. Those are things that you have to do,” Shannon said. “As coaches sometimes you get into the mode of, I think we can do this, we can do that, we can do this. Well, we’re sitting in the office from 7 o’clock in the morning to 10 or 11 o’clock at night. Yeah, we can do those things, but when you’ve got a young man that’s got to sit in there for 30 minutes and then go execute a lot of different things on the football field, that’s a little different. So we’ve got to make sure we do the things that he can do, whichever quarterback it is, and make us successful.”

You cant compare what NFL qbs do and what any college qb can do...first, no microphone in their helmut and college is much simpler than paid professionals. This is why a lot of high draft picked qbs don't succeed or wait two to three years developing. Teams will select a QB on the development path...usually it should be two years...but look around and you will retread qbs in the pros that end up starting after they have languished on benches. It isn't college coaching, as much as youth and not wanting to overload a young kid.

In air raid schemes it is much easier to have young qbs succeed...but concept is usually poor team records in high scoring games. Defense wins championships pure and simple. You run the ball well and defend the run well. Look no further than Bama for the blueprint. Must throw if necessary and have short fields. Bama has only allowed two teams to gain 100 yds rushing and one of them was Northern Colorado when Bama subbed a lot of starters.

I'm just happy Shannon is not only acknowledging the QBs are struggling -- but saying that they will simplify the offense. That's all I want to see. Not ''we need to execute'', that much is obvious, but one quarterback has shown us that he cannot.

Build the offense around your players, not vice versa.

It doesn't help that Nuss rubs an nfl playbook. Just start Zaire to end this year and let a real OC/QB help franks when the new staff arrives. No point in hurting in confidence anymore
