re: College football teams with the most penalties called against their opponents per game

I bet you could count on your hand the number of holding calls in Alabama games the last 2 seasons (combined, both for and against Alabama).

The only penalties that I feel like I see quite a bit are on our DBs down the field.

I'll break it down (def a slow day at work )

FSU
11 penalties called
Alabama - 1 offensive holding, 1 PI, 2 Unsportsmanlike (both offsetting), 1 delay of game
FSU - 2 unsportsmanlike (both offsetting), 1 PI, 2 personal foul, 1 illegal formation (declined)

Fresno
6 total penalties called
Alabama - 1 illegal substitution, 1 offsides, 1 face mask, 1 delay of game,
Fresno - 1 offsides (declined), 1 block in the back

Colorado St
8 penalties called
Alabama - 2 PI (1 declined), 1 personal foul, 1 offsides, 1 roughing the passer
CSU - 1 ineligible receiver, 1 illegal substitution, 1 False start

Vandy
11 total penalties called
Alabama - 1 personal foul, 3 offsides, 2 false start
Vandy - 1 delay of game, 2 false start, 1 PI, 1 offside

Ole Miss
Alabama - 1 illegal procedure, 1 PI, 1 roughing the passer, 2 offensive holding, 2 false start
Ole Miss - 1 illegal shift, 1 offensive holding, 1 personal foul,

Texas A&M
Alabama - 2 PI, 1 substitution, 1 ineligible receiver, 1 personal foul,

Only 12 of 54 penalties enforced in Alabama games have been during-the-play judgment calls, an average of 2 combined per game

Holding happens on every damn play by BOTH teams. If Refs called them all, no one would ever score. The PI non-calls and this new found necessity to take the physical out of football is what drives me nuts!
