It gave them more titles than Notre Dame at the time (shortly after Bryant retired). Why they went with 1941 over 1945 or 1966 is a mystery.

1945, 1966, and 1977 would have all been better claims. I still don't know why we don't claim '66. Had won back to back National Championships prior, and got absolutely jobbed by the media.
