It was actually incredible foresight. They claimed 11 titles during the eighties, so that the 92 title (during Alabama's centennial year of football) would be the 12th. This added a double meaning to the commonly displayed classic Alabama helmet with the number 12, and helped get a lot of people through the lean years between Stallings and Saban.
