He did come forward, but when you are far back like he was, how far you can come is limited. If he was in position to defend that pass, he would not have had to dive forward to the ground just to get to the ball at the 4 yard line as he did.

Yeah, after another look I saw where he broke forward and to his left. That took him out of the play. It was all he could do to get back to make a close pick. he couldn't have covered Nauta.

If you look closely, this guy was facing Sony, thus would not have been in position to defend the pass where the route was heading. He have been left in the dust due to being distracted by Son

It looks like he was backpedaling to me.

However, what is the point? bad read, or bad throw, or what? I'm not sure.

He was, and then he turned his hips towards Sony.

Real-Time Play

Here is how the play worked out from my vantage point:

Key:
1: Nauta
2: Michel
3: TN LB
4: TN LB
5: TN CB

Football is circled

This is immediately after the snap. Nauta (1) runs straight ahead while Michel (2) is starting his wheel route to the left sideline. After a stutter to his left, LB3 starts following LB4 to their right while CB5 is standing still, defending Nauta.

Fromm has started his delivery at this point as Nauta begins making contact with LB4. LB3 is still a few yards away and CB5 is still backpedaling to stay with Nauta's route. Michel has just gotten open underneath, but Fromm has started his motion already.

Fromm has released the ball a few miliseconds earlier and Nauta is starting to fall down. LB4 has run past Nauta and is chasing after a streaking Michel. LB3's trajectory appears to be after Michel, as well. CB5 is still backpedaling as Nauta falls down.

Nauta is down and the ball hits the ground right in front of the safety. Michel is still heading down the sideline to no avail but LB3 and LB4 appear to be pursuing him. CB5 is now full on trying to head toward the the ball.

I like how there isn't enough body of work to fully compare Eason to Fromm, but it's totally appropriate to break down a single two-second play for three pages.
