Again, that is just wrong. Sometimes guys develop better.

Rashad Johnson and Javier Arenas are two recent examples of guys who few or in Johnson's case literally NOBODY wanted yet developed in college and went on to play in the league.

You gonna say our evaluations are crap because Johnson and Arenas were starting over start recruits? If Bama wasn't consistently putting DBs on all SEC teams and in the NFL you'd be able to make a point, but that isn't the case. We simply got lucky that a kid from Arizona loved Alabama enough to come clear across the country to live a dream and turned out to also be a really good football player.

For one, when Johnson and Arenas joined and played for the team we didn't have star recruits at the CB position. Dre Kirkpatrick was the first star defensive back we signed under Saban and Johnson was already gone and Arenas was a Senior during Dre's Freshman year.

The only guys we have making All-SEC teams have been the 5-stars. Our mid-level evaluations have been crap.

Here are the guys we've signed since 2009 at corner that weren't 5-stars:

John Fulton
DeQuan Menzie
Deion Belue x2
Bradley Sylve
Geno Smith
Travell Dixon
Maurice Smith
Jonathan Cook
Nigel Knott
Shyheim Carter
Jared Mayden
Aaron Robinson

Then you have the 5-stars that didn't pan out in BJ Scott, Kendall Sheffield and Tony Brown (somewhat).

Another sad thing is guys we have recruited to play WR, who didn't work out at that position, have performed better in the secondary like Cyrus Jones and Anthony Averitt.

The point is there have been some really good players we've passed on because they didn't fit our system. As the list above shows, neither did the ones we signed apparently.
