I know some of you have already, but who all will be in the woods this year? Season opens here next Friday, so I getting excited. Hunting all new land this year so I'm still figuring it out. I've also picked up a new rifle in 6.5 CM. Bought into the hype on that cartridge and now I can see why it's received all the hype it has. It beats my 308 in every category ballistically.

Anyhow, good luck to you all and stay safe in the woods this season!

I plan on it in October. I'm going to get a Remington .270 this weekend and get it sighted in. I haven't hunted deer since I was 16 or 17 because of an allergy to their dander.... Back then I had 1 of around 10 cases known in the southeast.

The urge is back and frankly I don't care if it's a trophy or not, that's just a bonus. I will still shoot to put meat in the freezer and lean meat won't hurt me.

Eta: the rifle I use to have was a Jarrett 300. Long story short; Several years ago I received a phone call coming back from US Open qualifying in Knoxville that it was stolen. Needless to say I'm still pissed about it....

I will wait till Novemberish when its cool and dont have to dress immediately... Im not a big deer hunter its boring to me. I love turkey season though, nothing better than a bird coming in hot to wake you up in the morning. Nothing prettier than seeing him strut and the sun hit his feathers.

My thing is duck hunting. I don't care if it's in a boat on a river, lake, salt water, or on land where they fly in first thing in the morning into a swamp or creek. It's the only time I really look forward to waking up at dark 30 to get ready for.

Same here, I've never been duck hunting and enjoy turkey and predator hunting much more than deer hunting. Something about actually chasing down the animal rather than sitting in a tree waiting. The perks to deer season is just being outside, alone, in nature.

PS - If any of you have a coyote or hog problem you'd like some help with, once January rolls around I'd be willing to come pop a few.

Excellent choice. Very flat trajectory out to about 200 yards.

My son's already been several times this year lungbuster ... I have not. I'm more into fishing these days until I go on my yearly hunt to Midlands TX in December after another Big Axis.

There have been some nice deer already taken in SC though - it's just been too hot for me to wanna get out there and fight the gnats.

Archery season opens in NC tomorrow and I hope to be able to make it in the evening. My daughter has jiu jitsu on Saturday mornings and that's going to kill a lot of my morning hunts this year. I've also picked up another small tract in SC last week that I need to cut a few lanes in a large field to provide easier access to the backside of the property, so I'll probably be busy with that early afternoon. There are large white oak draws on each side and I'd love to have stands on both sides.

I've seen several good SC deer taken so far in some of the Facebook groups, hopefully, that trend will continue in the upstate next week

Season opened in zone 2 today. I managed to shoot a 124 lb doe this evening. Ready for some backstrap on the smoker!
