I went to HS with Troy and he could fly.
Iirc, when Lou and Skip came to recruit him he ran a 4.39 in regular street clothes. He didn't get hit much because he out ran everybody.

Oh I remember when we were recruiting him out of Silver Bluff. He could absolutely fly. He had some decent numbers - but as you state he rarely got hit. Even at Carolina he rarely got hit. He just outran everyone.
When he got to the NFL he had serious issues getting off the line and he stayed hurt all the time. Worst of all he had serious attitude problems, run-ins with players and coaches alike, and his off field problems were just too much. To top it all off I think he set an NFL record for dropped balls or something like that.
But he definitely had world class speed and was a gifted athlete.
I actually saw him in Aiken maybe a year ago. Not one of my all time favorite Gamecocks.
