I may be off base here, but it was originally to allow more of the state access to games. Southeastern Arkansas is literally 3-400 miles from campus.

Nope, you hit the nail on the head. Not that long ago it was not an easy drive up to Fayettevile from the rest of the state. NW Arkansas had a small population and was fairly isolated from the rest of the state.

Now its an easy, if a bit long, drive up there and the Western half of the state, especially NW Arkansas, has grown like a weed.

Little Rock is the last holdover from the old days of football. Ole Miss and Moo State used to play a lot of their big games in Jackson, Alabama at Birmingham, and so on across the country.

When we play our last game there next year it will be the end of an era for not only Arkansas football, but for college football.

This is pretty much an indictment of the Arkansas fan base as a whole, save those who actually went to the game.

Hierarchy of excuses:

1) Little Rock/War Memorial Stadium suck.

Well, that's just like your opinion man. As Lieutenant Daniel Taylor aptly stated in Forrest Gump, "So, you boys are from Arkansas, huh? Well, I've been through there. Little Rock's a fine town." Sure, WMS is no Razorback Stadium, but it isn't nearly as bad as what people make it out to be. Vanderbilt Stadium and Vaught-Hemingway are turds as well. Hell, as recently as 2013 the bathrooms at Kyle Field had dirt floors.

It's pretty clear that Little Rock games are done for, so why not show up and support your team?

2) The weather looked bad.

Grow a pair Sally. You know where the weather looked bad all week? Houston. Those fine people have the right complain about the weather. If you let a few rain drops keep you from attending a football game, you need help. The weather was fine actually. A pleasant 75 degrees at kickoff. Far better than oppressive heat that I've experienced in years past.

3) But it's Florida A&M.

Yeah they suck and they can't even get their jerseys right. You know who else couldn't get the jerseys right? Vanderbilt in the 2014 opener against Temple. But wait, Derek Mason actually got the okay from the SEC office to wear those stupid jerseys. The jerseys were the only thing he defended that night. Lost 37-7. Yuck.

I don't care if it's Florida A&M or Texas A&M. If it's the opening week of college football, show up.

4) But it's a Thursday/work night/school night.

Are Thursday night games ideal? No. But they are played all across the country at junior highs, high schools, colleges, and in the NFL. Sorry the game wasn't scheduled at your convenience.

When I was in school (before we joined the SEC), the interesting thing regarding the Arkansas-Ole Miss series is that we never played at either team's home stadium. We alternated between Jackson and Little Rock. That went on for more than a decade.

I'm guessing you don't see that kind of arrangement much anymore.
