many kickers try to pin the receiver in the corner. i saw this video
strange ruling
if this is the case, it could be big and teams ought to do this to prevent getting pinned down. but apparently, even refs are not on the same page
ref discussion
i wonder if the ncaa differs from the nfl. seems like the nfl would have addressed this loophole but this nfl digest doesn't seem to address it.

Not clicking the link, but are you talking about stepping out of bounds before reaching in to touch the ball?
If so, good strategy that a player might have the opportunity to execute once every few seasons.

Seems like they could address it by rolling that situation into the same rule that penalizes a receiver if he touches the ball first after voluntarily going out of bounds.

Ruled as kicked out of bounds.

I think in college it is down at the spot. Like it should be. That was a smart play but it was also a cheap 40 yards.

I think you are incorrect. If you catch the ball with any part of your body out of bounds on a kickoff I believe it is the same as kicking the ball out of bounds.

You might be right. It doesn't seem right to me, but I can't recall ever seeing it in college. If you have an example please give a link if you have the time.

quote:yep. instead of getting pinned down inside the 5, the packers got the ball on the 40. that's huge.

obviously, the "voluntarily" part would be the sticking point. but i guess that's about the same as pass interference. very subjective.
