Some scores around the state last night

7A - PLAYOFF TIME!

Auburn 23, Davidson 7
McGill-Toolen 35, Jeff Davis 14
Lee-Montgomery 28, Fairhope 7
Central-Phenix City 42, Theodore 13
Mountain Brook 23, Bob Jones 22
Thompson 35, Huntsville 0
Hoover 49, Sparkman 7
Hewitt-Trussville 33, Spain Park 21

-Bob Jones really lost a heart breaker to Mountain Brook. Mt Brook was without both of their RBs in this game, and were down 16-22 with 3:15 left on their own 35 yard line. They converted 3 3rd downs on that drive to take the lead. Bob Jones outplayed them, but had 3 fumbles that ultimately cost them a chance to advance.

-Thompson won 35-0 over Huntsville. It's crazy how one player can change a program. Thompson goes from a program that hasn't had a playoff win at home since '97, to serious contenders for the 7A championship. Tagovailoa threw for nearly 400 yards and had 3 scores. This team will now host Mountain Brook.

-Central Phoenix City beat Theodore 42-13. Somehow with the story lines around Thompson and Hoover battling it out in Birmingham has made people forget- Phoenix City is the #1 ranked team in the state right now and has former Prattville HC, Jamey Dubose, leading them. This guy has been to 6 state championship games, so it's not like he doesn't know what it takes to build a program. This team with Justyn Ross can definitely take it all the way. Barring any chaos, we should see Phoenix City take on Hoover or Thompson. It'll be a great match-up.

Hoover 49-7. This time of the year is when Hoover plays its best football. Both AU commits had a big game, and helped Hoover get out to a 28-0 lead in the 2nd quarter. They're going to take on Hewitt-Trussville next, as they just knocked off Spain Park.

6A Playoffs
Opelika beat Daphne 15-5. Down 5-0 at half, Opelika finally got on board with Conner Smith on a 36-yard run. Daphne has been a program known for its defense, and sacked Opelika QB, Cade Blackmon, 4 times. Opelika will face Park Crossing next.

Park Crossing beat Bessemer City 35-6.
Saraland took it to Benjamin Russell 35-7. Didn't see this one coming with how well well Benjamin Russell has played this year, but I guess it was kind of expected with Saraland having a Stanford commit as QB. He was efficient, finishing 12-15 for 205.

Wetumpka beat Blount 41-7. JD Martin and Kavosiey Smoke killed it on the ground as usual. Over 250 yards on the ground combined from the both of them, and 3 TDs. If there's any weakness I see from Wetumpka, it's their secondary and offensive line. They travel to Carver-Montgomery next week.

Carver-Montgomery 13-7 over McAdory

Sidney Lanier 21, Paul Bryant 20 (Thurs.)
Spanish Fort 49, Pelham 14

Shades Valley 34, Pell City 7 (Thurs.)
Austin 48, Carver-Birmingham 0
Ramsay 14, Cullman 0
Pinson Valley 45, Florence 20

Muscle Shoals 23, Gardendale 20
Oxford 30, Hueytown 7 (Thurs.)
Clay-Chalkville 21, Athens 0
Homewood 28, Fort Payne 21
