We had 2:36 of totality, one of the highest in the nation. Kids were let out of school if they wanted. I took my daughter to the park.

It was one of the most stunning things I have ever seen. At 99% it was just a blocked out sun. The air cooled, it was twilight. It was cool but...

then totality. The difference between totality and 99% was incredible. There was a line of sun colored diamonds from a valley on the moon for a second, and then a red/purple ring of lights around the moon for a second. Then there was the huge blue white corona around the moon for over 2 minutes. Everything was tinged with this blue white twilight. All the night insects started singing. There was a crowd of a several hundred people where we were that went completely silent for the entire time. Everyone was stunned and moved.
Then the red ring came back
then the diamonds
and then it was over and were back to 99% twilight.

Exceeded every expectation I had. I really had no idea. I've looked at many photos since none of them captured what I saw. You really had to be there. Just describing it is getting me choked up

I hope I get to do it in 2024. I will absolutely travel for that.
