Why we need to be patient with MPJ this year

I know football is what most want to talk about right now, but I ran across this video by mistake and it shows that MJP is human and might have some freshman struggles once and a while this season. Even though they say that he scored 20 points in the game he really struggled in every aspect of the game. The title of the video is very misleading. He played with and against some very good D1 players and seemed to have struggled. That's kind of cool when a star player like him can look off in a game and still score 20. Who does that? Check out the highlights. He's still good and is going to be a beast.

He's had eyes on him forever. There is a reason he is so highly thought of, but yes he will have poor games.

Not sure what you saw to think he's not as advertised. He played 20 minutes and had 17 points and 6 rebounds. On 8-15 shooting.
That game had a little more iso play than you will see in a normal game. A few of his mistakes came there.

I saw that video too and was a bit surprised by the struggles with handling the ball, finishing strong and playing defense (yeah, none of them do at these things). His outside shot seemed to be the best thing he had going for him.

I don't think he said MPJ isn't the top recruit nor that he didn't have a good game. I think the point was there are things in the video that show MPJ is human and has some things to work on.
1:12 - Let's a guy dribble right by him
1:23 - Nice 3
1:37 - Nice 3
1:54 - No help defense
2:40 - Struggled dribbling the ball though was later fouled
3:05 - Couldn't finish in the paint
3:37 - Couldn't finish in the paint
5:37 - Nice post up and finish
5:56 - Nice rebound and put back
6:14 - Difficulty going baseline, knocked out by defender
7:21 - Lost the ball dribbling with no real pressure
7:42 - Nearly lost the ball dribbling but regained to clank one
8:08 - Guy dribbles right by him
8:20 - Guy goes right by him on inbound play for lay up
8:27 - Fouled going to the hole. Would just like to see it taken stronger.
8:42 - Just swipes at a guy instead of moving feet. Lay up.
8:50 - Grabbed loose ball and finished strong
9:57 - Put the ball on the floor again and lost it
There were a few more touches, a made FT, a made 3, a few missed 3's and he altered someone's shot with just his presence.
At the end of the day, no one is saying, including OP, that MPJ isn't any good or that he doesn't deserve the kudos he's been given. We might just want to tamper down expectations a bit, at least those that expect him to single handedly change games. As good as he is, he has some work to do.

There was nothing in this game that was out of line from other games I have seen him play.
Playing good defense has never been something MPJ has done consistently.
Mizzou won't play as much iso ball as in these all star games, so the ball handling shouldn't be that big a concern.

See, I look at it positively. As good as he is, he still has some room to get even better. That's a good thing. Not a bad thing.

He won't play last defense for Cuonzo. It just won't happen.
These are all star games. No defense is ever played in them for the most part.

Hopefully by patient you mean he'll average 40 a night with 20 boards, 15 assists and 32 blocks......is that what you mean?
Agree tho, he's still a kid.
