You know how a dictionary works, right? They don't add terms until someone has already invented them. It came about in first-person shooter video games I'm pretty sure. But that term is like 15 or 20 years old at this point, so it was probably 10 or 15 years old when you looked it up. A decade+ isn't exactly newfangled.

Halo, like someone else pointed out.

After a kill, you would crouch several times on their head until they respawned. Hence, teabagging.
