More than anything else I think what both of those universities have in common is the vast difference between the sidewalk fan and the alum.
It goes more deeper than that as both universities have created an atmosphere around the university that attracts people to come to Athens or Austin.
You do not hear someone say let's go spend a weekend in Fayetteville or Starkville

I have never spent a weekend in Austin and thought the University of Texas made that an attractive destination.

Austin TX is the most overhyped college town in America. I'd rather go to any SEC town over that dump.
