The good: relatively inexpensive (with carnival you can get unlimited alcohol for just $50/day per person)
The bad: the food is overrated, the destinations aren't as luxurious as they appear online sometimes
The ugly: children
We've been on a few cruises and enjoy them but we aren't gonna go back on one for a while. Pick the right destinations and you'll have a good time.

We did the Carnival out of New Orleans to Cozumel. Had a blast. It costs about 300 dollars per person but the alcohol package was worth it. You got 15 drinks per day for that price. Worth looking into for sure
