A college team can change drastically with just a handful of players leaving. Sure, Bama can just toss another 5 star wunderkind out there but most programs don't have future NFL draft picks sitting on the bench waiting to get into the game.

As an outsider who follows Missouri football it looked like a young and nervous defense adjusting to a new scheme. To complicate matters the switch to an up tempo offense meant that defense was on the field an awful lot, particularly before Crockett emerged to help solidify your running game. You are going to give up points in that situation.

I'm of the opinion that the first year for a coach is pretty much a wash. You really get a sense of what the program is going to be like going forward in the second season and by the third season you know what you've got.
