Born and raised in SA, traveled with work though the 90's all over and been back in SA for about 15 years now. I'm from the opposite end of town from where Camp Bullis is but the commute from anywhere around the area isn't horrible. TBird isn't to far from that area and could probably help more up that way. You'll be on the edge of the Hill Country out that way and going out 10 west from Bullis opens up a lot of places like Boerne, Comfort, Kerrville, Bandera, then shooting across 46 opens up New Bruanfels, Spring Branch, Canyon Lake, ect. Depends on what your looking for, rural setting for family would be more like the smaller towns I mentioned above with the exception of Boerne and New Bruanfels as they've both gotten pretty big, for a younger crowd you'd want to stay closer to SA, I-10 Corridor near Bullis is where UTSA is located with a lot of bars and restaurants. Anything up in that area along 1604 between I-10 and 281 on up into the Hill Country will be the most expensive areas around though, west of 10 toward Sea World prices start dropping. Personally I'm SE of SA about 30 miles, close enough to go to town when we want but far enough out that we can spread out on our 50 acres without the hassle of neighbors, we're about 35 mins from New Bruanfels and spend more time up that area than we do in SA for leisure, have thought about relocating up there now that all our kids have moved out and still may but it's gotten so busy around there on weekends it can be a bit of a pain. Be glad to help if you have specific questions of the area.
