My point is this contract feels like a huge waste of money

How is paying the football coach a rate that ranks 11th in the league a "huge waste of money"? For comparison, Mark Stoops made $3.5 million in base pay last season - the same amount Orgeron is scheduled to make next season.

Regarding your claim that LSU does not have budget woes

That's not what he said, he said the ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT doesn't have budget woes.
quote:

government funding shortfalls are not affecting the university appreciably

That has ZERO affect on LSU Athletics. Athletics GIVES MONEY TO THE UNIVERSITY - not the other way around.

Why is this so fricking hard for you people to understand?

The LSU AD and TAF is flush with cash, they pay a coach Kentucky football coach level pay, and y'all are all freaking out.

I'm smelling something besides just concern for our program up in here...

Apologies for the late response. I just want to make it clear that your response misses the mark as you do not accurately reflect MetryTiger's claims.

You are 100% wrong. He did not specify the athletic department there. His exact quote was:

quote:

LSU does not have 'budget woes.' Neither does the state economy.

Then he said

quote:

Actually only 11% of the statewide LSU system's total budget comes from the State, and any cuts will not appreciably affect the University.

And I just called BS on that, that state cuts do affect the university as a whole. I never made the claim that LSU athletics was hurting for lack of cash, you keep changing the subject and putting words in Metry's mouth. I clearly stated that athletics at places like LSU and Alabama give money to the academic side. My point was that with better negotiating in this instance, Alleva could probably be in a better position to give more to the academic side, and that is money the University as a whole appears to need. I know it's easy to get sideways on here but I really wasn't trying to attack LSU. I have family in LA and am a big supporter of education in general, I have no ill will towards the state or school. This contract just seemed out of line, but I agree that the likelihood that O gets fired the first few years (without cause) when the buyout is enormous are slim.

Stoops has a far far better resume than Ed Orgeron. Ed orgeron has been a position coach for 29 of his 32 years in coaching.
Stoops has been a DC at multiple p5 programs.
