Then agree to play each other more often in the non conference slate. And with this being the sport of basketball, what would be the point of avoiding that at all if you can help it with the way the Selection Sunday people can treat teams with weak non conference slates?

I agree. I think it's kind of silly to avoid former rivals in any sport. I understand the thought behind it, but IMO having a legit hatred filled rivalry helps recruiting. Those are games kids grow up dreaming of playing in. When the Big 8 existed, Nebraska vs Oklahoma was THE game in that region of the country. I doubt many kids dream of playing in a Nebraska vs Northwestern game today.
