At first I thought we would return to power run and play action but we can't. We now have a roster of spread quarterbacks who aren't skilled enough to be pure dropback passers. I hate it and Saban obviously disagrees with me or he wouldn't have put us in a situation without a true passer on the roster. I hate the hybrid. We are only doing it because he wants to be a spread team that can still recruit elite pro prospects and prepare them for the NFL. I think we should commit to one or the other but it is what it is. I think we will see an elite running game in 2017 but I hope we can throw it when we have to.

We don't know that to be so. Tua or Mac may be good to very good dropback passers. Hurts may develop a good game.
I'm not sure the spread helps recruiting, or at least Alabama recruiting. Running backs would probably prefer the pro set, whatever that means anymore. I am nearly certain that wide receivers would prefer a bona fide intermediate and long game, so they can show off, to what we had last year.
Saban has proven to be so far ahead of the curve that it's probably silly to question him, but I do wonder what he was thinking last year, to seemingly change direction again, so soon.
