Cleveland Clinic also has a remarkable track record.

We were blessed to be able to receive that kind of world class healthcare. We all talk about how good Emory is around here and they are don't get me wrong, but this place is on another level. The quality of the doctors is amazing.

My wife's oncologist was a Melanoma Specialist from Australia. You are thinking Australia....so what? Well Australia has the highest Melanoma rates in the world so he had plenty of experience over there with it. Guy had the wise old sage vibe about him. We knew we were in great hands and his quiet confidence/reassurance and his track record was impressive. Like another poster here said you have got to find that Dr. that gives you that confidence and we had that with him.

My wife's surgeon there, one of the top plastic surgeons in the world did her surgery and did a fine job. Cocky and arrogant like a fighter pilot....I loved the guy.

Emory is a great teaching school and the hospitals in the area are some of the finest in the world but they simply do not have the reputation for cancer treatment that The Cleveland Clinic and MD Anderson have...

Both have in resident treatment programs that are not cheap but within he budget of most people with health insurance and some savings. Not that you are going to come out clean on the other side but it is such that you can be treated and costs are taken care of afterwards....often for many years afterwards but it is better than simply being told you have to have a couple of hundred thousand up front....

This and a positive attitude...people survive cancer in Hospitals all over the nation...it doesn't have to be Md Anderson...but you have to have confidence in your health care professionals and in turn you have to have a positive...even an a-hole...attitude about beating cancer...and the people supporting the patient...the spouse, the kids, the parents....need to be positive also...and need to be prepared to take some abuse...the patient is pissed off and scared and sick...not at their best in other words....and they do not need all of their families drama interfering with their focus to beat cancer at any and all costs.

All of us like to think we would do whatever it takes for a loved one to survive cancer but many times we let our own shite creep in on the one thing we can do and that is be there and be supportive....thats all you can do and that is all they need...
