I think the large issue is the inconsistency between a foul on the perimeter and a foul inside. You allow a lot of contact in one area but little to none in the other.
And this still isn't anything like the game a couple years ago in Bud Walton where I think we came close to setting a single-game foul record.

It is terrible though. This thread says it all as well. and I agree that the tourney has better officiating.
