Retirement was calling. Then so, too, was Indiana.
The latter is going to win out for Mike DeBord.
Tennessee’s outgoing offensive coordinator, the brunt of much fan ire through two seasons on Rocky Top, has agreed to the same post at Indiana University, where DeBord is a native of the state.
The Hoosiers lost their bowl game to Utah last month and fired head coach Kevin Wilson mid-season, promoting Tom Allen on a multi-year deal on Dec. 1, 2016.
“DeBord was likely going to retire regardless, and then this came out of nowhere,” a source said. “He wants to spend more time with his family and was prepared to do that in retirement, but he feels good and now can coach back closer to home. He’s missed his kids and his grandkids.”
