TripleDave had it about right. I loved a lot of what Kiffin brought to the table, but the Florida and Washington games were, well, not well called, to understate matters. Sure, you'd hope that Kiffin could stay focused for one more week, but he admitted today that he could not. Thank goodness Coach Saban had the foresight to have Sarkisian in the wings.

Could very well have negative repercussions. We likely won't know this year because regardless of whether Bama loses or wins, there's no way to tell if it was on Kiffin or not. They didn't play a very good offensive game against Washington under Kiffin, after all. That's not in dispute. And, as you said, they did reach this game with a frosh at QB under Kiffin, which is also not in dispute.
There are just so many variables that factor into how well employees function, and what changing dynamics can alter the direction the business/program is headed.

I hear ya man, we just don't agree. I personally think every major program should avoid Kiffin like the plague. I was concerned LSU would hire him at one point. Drama clearly follows him.

Personally, I think Sabans mistake was not telling Lane to go ahead and move on post SECCG. Nothing in Lanes professional life to date would make someone believe he had the discipline to do both jobs and do them both well.
This result was predictable, and Sark could have gotten a month to work with guys and get accustomed to things.
But, Saban didn't do that, and at some point he clearly felt the decision had to be made. We'll see if it works.

I agree with all of that. If Bama wins, then I think it's fair to takeaway that many OCs would succeed at Bama. JMO

Well, you have to consider context. He was an excellent offensive coach until conditions (his employment status) changed, then he reverted to Old Lane with his comments, and his offense went backward. So, there is no clear cut answer: both moves may turn out to be excellent. Context matters.

I'm taking context into consideration. Lane hasn't always been considered an excellent offensive coach. He called his own plays at USC and was heavily scrutinized as their offensive numbers slipped.

Well I always thought you were a little more astute than that. 3 SEC titles and a Natty with 3 different first year QBs has never been done before, ever. He made history. So I don't know what to tell you. Pretty successful time bomb, that's for sure.

Nobody I've ever seen said Kiffin can't coach offense.
I said when he was hired he was a douchebag, but he was our douchebag.
He apparently couldn't prioritize this job over his new one, and I can understand that. I hope he does well there.
I'm glad Saban gave him a size 9 assist to move on so we can get the appropriate focus on the task at hand.

But if Bama beats Clemson, and the O looks better than it did against Washington, you will agree that firing him was a good decision, right? You are an awful poster. I would really have to reassess my life if I ever found myself spending entire days trying to flame LSU fans on a message board.
Now that that is cleared up, I'll say that Lane is what he always has been: an immature douche and program cancer who knows how to call plays and develop QB's. I didn't like the hire at the time for those negative reasons, but I recognized the potential for it to work out due to those positives. I think overall, when one looks at the development of Bama's O the last three years, most knowledgeable parties would admit it worked out really well. But now it's run its course and ending on a sour note, just like everyone knew it would eventually. Bama was in a position where the next guy has already been on the staff for a season, so a decision was made to move on. I don't know how anyone who watched the Washington game could conclude anything other than the fact that Lane had checked out. So to answer your 'question,' I begrudgingly admit that Lane has done a good job overall with Bama's offense despite the fact that he sucks personally. I also like the decision to let him go now as I trust Saban's experience and feel for the pulse of his team in making such decisions. Therefore they were both good decisions made at times when circumstances were drastically different. The worst decision I'm aware of that was made today was when you logged onto your computer this morning.
