We didn't have a national title in the 50s. Not an AP or UPI, anyway, and since they started deciding the national champions, those are the most observed.

So now just the 80s has turned into the 40s, 50s and 80s.
Alabama fans prove that if you throw big enough fit, you can claim all the championships you want.
