Question about the way we see veterans

This may get massively down voted but... how can we say they are defending our freedoms when they are serving in the Middle East? They aren't defending our soil as much as being utalized by our government for power.
What is your opinion? What of our freedom is in Iraq?

It's becoming clearer with each post that you do not understand that the US has many interests tied to the middle east. The lines you have drawn in your head are not real.

You bring up an interesting question, it is too bad that you won't get any real discourse here.
Edit: It doesn't make sense to blame veterans for this, but should make you highly critical of those who sent them there

government interests in the middle east are tied to interest of the people back home. Maybe not in all cases, but if you enjoy living in a country that essentially runs the free world, we have to assist in eradicating ISIS.

What interests directly reflect the interest of the people? I am open to understanding why, but dont tell me vets are the defenders of america when they didnt do it here.

What did they defend is the question. If anything, they have been the aggressor which is the opposite.

I'm saying having a large, competent military force is defending this country indirectly.
I don't necessarily disagree with your second point other than "they" are the wrong group to point the finger at. To be fair, we stirred up a lot of problems over there but let's not act like there wasnt a large contingent that were terrible; I think the problem was exacerbated.
Imo a lot of our action over there is about money. Now we have an excuse to continue on over and a large part of our economy depends on it.

We really have no moral ground at all if we are putting our vets at risk for $. How is that different than any corporation using dangerous equipment, etc? We dont say our factory workers made a sacrifice etc.

well, oil. Oil prices are a matter of macro and microeconomics. The middle east accounts for roughly 30% of the world's oil. Stability of the foreign oil market is essential and ISIS certainly isn't helping.
Plus, you know, ISIS would like to come on US soil and blow shite up too.
