In general, not just limited to Alabama, but the whole "shift formations, put a man in motion" stuff drives me nuts. Does anyone think an offense gains a tactical advantage compared to the amount of false start/delay of game penalties they accrue? You know how you'd gain a tactical advantage? Get up to the line of scrimmage, get set, AND SNAP THE BALL!

How many times do you see a defense standing up and looking around when the offense takes the line of scrimmage? You can bust big plays just snapping big plays.

How many games have you actually watched this year? I mean really watched. Two huge gains in the Old Miss game...the long pass to Ridley and the long run Harris busted to the 1 yard line...were a DIRECT result of the WR motion and faked jet sweep. Go back and watch what how the LB and DB take themselves out of the play following the motion man.

You got numbers to back this up?

Offenses across the country have been using pre-snap motion for decades. Ours included. Its simple football. When a man is in motion, someone on the defense has to account for him, often taking a defender out of the actual direction of the play.

I hate Lane's over-reliance on horizontal cuteness as much as everybody, but a lot of it works when executed correctly against aggressive defenses in man coverage
