So I bitched to 'em. And they actually responded, though the answer won't please anybody:

Occasionally, we find that some items have declined in overall popularity. In order for us bring new and exciting flavors to our customers, we must sometimes discontinue other items from the national menu, but many local markets may continue to carry it. Be sure to let your local sandwich artists know how much you enjoyed it as well!

We appreciate you as a Subway customer and hope you will continue to enjoy our food!
