They can't fire Smart after one season but Chaney will be gone...

I can't imagine how they justify keeping that fat sumabitch. His play calling is god-awful.
And his buddy Pittman hasn't exactly worked any miracles with the offensive line, either.

fatass decides to run the same play that vanderbilt had seen, and gives it to our smallest player who has no ability to break tackles on a 4th and 1

I think the student section should be able to text in plays. I couldn't be any worse than our million dollar OC.

In that situation, why did we not simply put in the jumbo option? Heck...hand it off to some big guy like Nauta and let him run straight ahead for a yard. Or just use a big back.
But that same cruddy short side play outside with MacKenzie? HUH????

Chaney is a sack of shite and should have never been hired.

Chaney was only hired to get Pittman and looking at our offensive line recruiting under him it was worth it. Question is will Pittmman leave if we fire Chaney? Losing Pittman and having his recruits de-committ would be a disaster.

I agree with Pittman as a recruiter to a point. Not a great teacher though. We are struggling right now with our OL.We are playing a converted DL at LG and a transfer, who didn't start at Texas, at the other guard. So his recruits may not be so hot.
And yes he is tied at the hip to Chaney and I cannot figure that out.
I hope the dawgs can right this ship still pulling for them!!

UGA has 3 All-American offensive line commits. I don't think Arkansas ever had that kind recruiting.

True enough, but highly rated none the less. Just goes to show HS ratings may not mean much.

With what talent do you expect him to work miracles with?

True...there are risks to firing Chaney in December unless we are willing to make a major effort to keep Pittman by himself. Offer Pittman big bucks to untether from Chaney, if he's such an amazing recruiter.
At some point, though, you have to wonder...is it worth it? We pretty much have the same OL as last year but yet we appear to have regressed. Maybe you bring in a better OC with a top name OL coach?

You don't need a miracle to realize you don't give the ball to a 160lb wide receiver when you need a tough yard with the game on the line. Chubb or Michel probably fall forward and pick that up. Plus using Chubb at fullback when we have the best blocking fullback in college football was another cute move that backfired.
He is overly reliant on McKenzie.

If you fire Cheney, our seniors will have their 4th OC in 4 years.

I think the playcall is fine.
You assume the defense has to key on Chubb, which lets McKenzie loose.
Or they key on McKenzie, and Chubb gets loose.
On paper, it's a great playcall in my opinion.
Vandy played it well, and we didn't make it.
I'd like to see more of Chubb and Michel on the field at the same time so the linebackers can't continue to key in on both of them one at a time like they have been.

Bigger chance that Nauta fumbles. he is not a RB, and is not used to getting hit by 3-4 guys at several different angles at the same time.
I do agree that I did not like McKenzie getting that ball, though. Guessing they were hoping his speed would get him to the corner before their defense could react. Maybe hoping they would crash the middle to stop Chubb up the middle?

Agreed. he is not going anywhere. Changing OCs that much will chase recruits away, fast.

Same play with Sony at slot, motioning to tailback would be fine. But not a 160 pound wr...
