While going for the first down definitely has the higher upside...punting has the higher chance of success. If you punt, you DEFINITELY back your opponent up. IF you get the ball inside the 10 that's great. but either way you back your opponent up. Not sure why this has devolved into a punt not being successful unless we get it inside the 10.
