I agree that sometimes things may be overblown, but someone telling someone to stay in lit areas isn't exactly terrible advice. It beats my advice to go grab a bite in Orange Mound.

Why it's the same advice I give for friends not from La. that want to visit NOLA. It's the same advice I heed in any major US city as a matter of fact.
