I was at the N Texas game last year and watching this one reminded me of that. Its one of the few times I've seen poor effort and penalties in key situations.
Last year they sleep walked their way through that game.
Obviously App St is much better than N Tex but it seemed like the effort just wasn't there. Our O line got absolutely blown up on a lot of plays. I saw Coleman Thomas get literally trucked, I mean fall backwards and your arse trucked.
2nd half effort was better but I never would have thought they'd be flat in a season opener like this. I can understand a homecoming snoozefest but a home opener and not being fired up? I just thought it was strange.

Coleman Thomas got raped all night long. DTs, besides Vickers, got very little push.

Dobbs' inability to throw really cripples our offense. Malone and Williams could be playmakers, but not with Dobbs at the helm.

Dobbs biggest struggle to me was that he didn't seem like he was allowed to run tonight. The read option/designed runs were almost non existent and that's such a big part of how he gets into rhythm. When he's synced up with the run game he goes off and builds confidence in the throw game. The coaching staff seemed like they were trying to save his body from the punishment so that he is fresher for the meat of the schedule, but damn. When you're getting waxed by an undersized DL all night you've gotta change the game plan a little bit.

OL got pushed around and run defense in the first half was soft.

After we took out Bynum and we started playing nickel, App State did not score.

Dobbs didn't run much that game either. I swear to God it effects the entire team when he doesn't run. Even the defense plays less well.

This and I don't recall throwing much on 1st and 2nd. Really, it was runs right/left and screens. And they all looked bad

I've said this in other threads but it's become very obvious in the last two years that when Dobbs doesn't run its almost impossible for us to win if we are playing a team of any quality
