Every time the issue has come up, the attorney general of Alabama has issued the opinion that public buildings can not restrict the right to concealed carry.
Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange has determined Auburn University’s firearms policy, which prohibits the possession and use of firearms on university property, that the state’s 2013 gun law widely viewed as a victory for gun owners cannot be enforced on university campuses.

Pretty poorly worded headline, but yeah I see that. Can't enforce that law because of the universities being a 'public corporation' as opposed to a political subdivision.
