I don't know if it refers to the lady of the plantation or not, and I don't know if that was the intended reference or not. To me, it's not a clear reference to a system built on slavery the way confederate symbols are.
That being said, I know quite a few people "with a brain" who have said that it's a term for the lady of the plantation. You can make an argument, even one that seems obvious to you, without douchebag phrases like that. It shuts down discussion and makes you look uneducated.

Old Dominion. There is another argument, I guess, for Old Mississippi.
Was just thinking how utterly boring someone naming the school "Old Mississippi" is compared to the idea that Ole Miss is the name that slaves called the mistress of the plantation.
One is something a six year old would think of, the other captures history.
