Ferentz is considered by most people to be the epitome of a mediocre coach. Perhaps more than any coach in college football.

Not sure he can be called overrated.

Right when it seems Iowa may get worn out enough to actually fire Ferentz he has a big year that saves him.

That's his eternal pattern- he'll go 6-6 or 7-5 for 5 straight years, get on the hot seat, and then saves his job by pulling a 2015 type season out of his hat.

Bob Stoops had opportunities to win the 2003 and 2008 national titles, but was too conservative at key times in those games.

Overrated? Nowhere close. He does have the reputation to not finish the big one, as we have seen in the last three NC games he has had OU in. But, you must have near perfect seasons to get into that position.

1999: (7-5) Independence Bowl
2000: (13-0) Big XII and National Champions
2001: (11-2) Cotton Bowl Champions
2002: (12-2) Big XII and Rose Bowl Champions
2003: (12-2) Sugar Bowl (BCSNCG)
2004: (12-1) Big XII Champions and Orange Bowl (BCSNCG)

2005 NFL Draft saw 11 Oklahoma players taken.

2005: (8-4) Holiday Bowl Champions
2006: (11-3) Big XII Champions and Fiesta Bowl
2007: (11-3) Big XII Champions and Fiesta Bowl
2008: (12-2) Big XII Champions and BCSNCG

2009: started season highly ranked because of who came back, but 3 of the first 4 NFL Draft picks in 2010 were injured for much of the season. (8-5) Sun Bowl Champions

2010: (12-2) Big XII and Fiesta Bowl Champions
2011: (10-3) Insight Bowl Champions
2012: (10-3) Big XII Co-Champions and Cotton Bowl
2013: (11-2) Sugar Bowl Champions
2014: (8-5) Russell Athletic Bowl
2015: (11-2) Big XII Champions and CFP

He's maintained a consistent winner, despite not having more than one national title. If anything, his ONE failed season would be 2014 because of preseason hype and expectations.

Most overrated?

Sumlin, Bielema, Ferentz, Richt, Muschamp
