Apparently he was going to be picked up by the Saints but the Bears were 1 spot ahead. Undoubtedly would've impressed so much in camp that Brees would be cut and Shaw the new franchise QB. Then your Falcons would have to see Shaw at least twice a year for the next 15 years.
But alas, that's not what happened and he'll be behind Cutler for a while.

Was coming here to post that. That's funny.
That's why you never release what you're going to do before you actually do it in the NFL. The Saints let it leak that they were going to pick him up off waivers and then the Bears jumped them on it.
