what to do, sick as a contractor

Im in a contract position. I am pretty sure I don't have any paid sick days (though I need to check with HR). I have an infection and my boss told me she didn't want me to come in until a doctor had made sure that I wasn't contagious. What the hell am I supposed to do if the doctor doesn't ok me quickly. I really can't afford to go multiple days without working.

Go to urgent care. Get the ball rolling as quickly as possible. In the future, don't tell anyone you are sick. Just brush it off as sinus problems.

Yeah, I wouldn't have said anything but my eye is bloodshot as frick and I can't keep it open in the light. It's probably a cut but it might be pink eye or an infection and I'd be absolutely destroyed if I came in with any possibility of that.

You sound like a giant pussy. I hope this helps.

Not helpful or needed.
Op, I agree with the poster above that mentioned urgent care. It seems like the most reasonable option at this point. I don't necessarily agree with going to work while contagious. What if you caught your illness from someone who decided to show up sick themselves? You would have wished they didn't.
In the future, CYA. ensure there's something in your contract for things like this

This is what an emergency fund is for and why everyone, especially those not on a steady paycheck, needs one.

Sick days should be treated like an insurance plan. You should build them up so you have them in the bank if something serious should come up. So many people use up their sick days when they aren't really sick and then when they actually get sick, they have no paid time off left.
If you have been in your job for any length of time, you should have built up a number of sick days to be used in a situation like this.
Stop using your sick days to play hookie from work and you won't find yourself in this position.

Update: anyway, I was cleared and my boss told me to not come in even though I really wanted to. I've been working long days the rest of the week to make up for it. I found I really like working when the office is quieter.
I accrue one hour of sick leave per 30 hours worked. And I only started a couple of months ago.
Anyway, it's not like I had a choice here.
