Gulf Breeze

I second this notion. It's close to multiple forms of water, including the beach, but doesn't have all the congestion or extremely high-priced homes like living in a true beachside town/city. The permanent food trucks are reason enough for me to be there. Couldn't tell you first hand what the job market is like, but it fits every other criteria you mentioned.

I was also thinking Warner Robins, GA as well. It is located in Middle GA and 3-5 hours to the beaches (jekyll or in Florida), about 3-5 hours as well to the mountains. Plenty of lakes and rivers in the surrounding area, plus WR isn't a shite hole like Macon is, but big enough and close enough to ATL to get most of the stuff you need. There are a ton of medical offices around here as well. Plus if you get a job in WR you can live out in the country and still only drive 30 mins to work.

Cons: Traffic can be horrible at times, especially if you are going to the base (morning) or leaving the base (afternoon).

There is always road work going on somewhere in Houston Co. Police can be a dick (in Perry and Byron), but haven't had that much problem in WR as it seems too big to worry about bullshite stuff (for the most part).

The town is pro military, but other than seeing a bunch of pro military stuff, its ok.
