That might play a part but I doubt he is doing it purely out of friendship or that would be dumb.

yeah, his job is to do what's best for Tulane, not pull favors for old friends at the detriment of your own program

It's a big part. He spent 10 years coaching in Texas and has attended hundreds of camps in college station.
He attended a leadership conference last year with Sumlin as well.
