The Head Coach hardly ever does this. Schools have a work around for the approval of such acts. It can be someone that works in the football operations, the AD's office, etc. Sometimes even a booster will fund the trip and not tell the head coach. All of these are built in to give the coach an out when something is found out. A booster who is a real estate developer that funds these has no consequence professionally. A coach can be blackballed forever. Plus it looks better in the NCAA's eyes if the coach didn't know. The coach "knows" but he doesn't "know". In illegal activity the coach very rarely has any involvement in impermissible benefits. Oh he lets boosters know who he's like to sign but usually stops there outside of normal recruiting visits. The player is also informed that they are not to discuss the situation with the head coach. Been going on for 100 years.
