Since when has it ever been the responsibility of the school to take care of student's families?

When the students started making the school 10 million dollars a year.

Since a student/athlete complained that his mother couldn't pay her power bill. I mean sure, this student is paying tuition and cannot afford to find a place to live so he lives in the library but you cannot expect a the parent of a football player to pay her own power bill

Following up on my first comment, it has never, nor should it ever be the responsibility of the school to look out for anyone other than the student.

And schools do perform this function via providing an education AND a stage on which to showcase athletic talent. Someone please quantify the exposure to professional leagues that collegiate athletes receive. You can't, and this is why student athletes shouldn't get paid.

Now if a kid were ready for the pros straight out of high school, but was forced to go to college, then I can see an argument in support of paid student athletes.
