Picture, in your mind, Martin Luther King, Jr. Now, imagine he was white. Then pretend black people weren't actually oppressed at the time. Then picture him with a raging case of misplaced guilt, and an equally massive inferiority complex.

Then throw in a cup of boredom and dollop of pitiful identity crisis. For good measure, throw in a dash of inability to think a matter through reasonably, check for facts, and consider consequences of actions. Also, he's upper middle class.
