I'm living on borrowed time -- some guy name Rory the Ape in Memphis lent it to me back in the spring of naught-seven -- so I don't have the patience to go back 8 pages to find a thread. Thanks for posting this topic so I got a chance to see it, Prof. I find the statistic fascinating, and while it does make certain universities look bad, so does the city of Gainesville. I think the latter issue should be addressed before trying to tackle the former.

Can't believe you agreed to a deal with Rory. He's notorious for calling in the worst possible favors but you probably know that already. I never knew bananas could be used in so many strange ways. *shivers*

But back on point, the Gainesville issue is easily the more embarrassing and pressing one. However it may be much tougher to solve. Hell my spellchecker is so embarrassed by it that it corrects Gainesville to Bougainvillea. WTF?

To be fair, the only bananas the grocery store had were under-ripe, so he could hardly have predicted that...outcome.

All I get for Gainesville is this squiggly red underline telling me it's not an acceptable word. Let's try a few others: Nashville. Knoxville. Columbia. Tuscaloosa. Oxford. Starkville. Lexington. Athens. Fayetteville. Auburn. Yankee Meth Town. The only two that get bitchy red lines are Starkville and (surprisingly, seeing as it is also the home of a major military base in N.C.) Fayetteville. This all must mean something. Possibly something deeply insulting.

I omitted College Station and Baton Rouge because those consist of real words external to their use as city names. As does Auburn, for that matter.
