I was a student at LSU when Auburn had Cadillac, Ronnie, Jacobs and Smith. They all could tote the rock. Per the norm, I hated Auburn with a passion because y'all were our toughest division rival and Tuberville was a world class prick. Bama was swallowing loads then, so essentially the West was an Auburn/LSU race, with Arky throwing their hat in the ring, too.

Smith was really hard nosed (in a lunch pail, high motor, coach on the field kind of way) and when he squared up the pads, he could deliver a hit, hold on to the ball and find the first down marker. Very similar attributes to Hester, but Hester was just a tad stronger with an even higher motor. Smith was a very good special teams player as well, just an all-around good football player. He just gets lost in the shuffle because Auburn had 3 NFL backs ahead of him, but he would have been a feature back at a lot of other schools.
