So I broke down and bought p90. Not p90x just p90. I'm turning 25 on Friday and I'm the heaviest I've ever been (205). A lot of it is beer weight I have put on in the past year and eating fast food a lot recently. I've put on 20 lbs since I started dating the new gf 5 months ago and it's killing me. I will start Monday, and this week and weekend will be my last drinking a lot of beer and bad food. Anyone done the workout. I haven't worked out since I was 21 so I went for the p 90 route instead of p90x. I plan to stick by the recipes they provide for the whole time and of course have a couple cheat days here and there and only drink on Friday or Saturday and limit myself to 6 beers. Anyone done this before? Reviews on line seem to be pretty good and I know p90x is huge on the OT. I figure I do this for 2 months, maybe the full 3 then go to X once I build up some stamina again. Thanks for any tips.

Congrats on getting started bro, once you start, it's hard to stop.

I did p90x, as well as Insanity. P90x is basically just a longer more intense version of P90. I think it is great for beginners, or getting back into it, but honestly, you are going to get bored of it pretty quickly. The workouts are very repetitive, and some are downright silly. I think it's also important to note that p90 and p90x are geared more toward functional strenght than lifting or bodybuilding. Be prepared to do a lot of assisted pull-ups, chair dips, etc. So it's going to depend on your goals as to how much you like it.

That leads me to my next point, what are your goals?? Are you looking to just drop a few lbs?? Are you wanting to build muscle, or get ripped?? By a couple of cheat days here and there, do you mean 1 a week, 2 a week, or just at random?? 6 beers every week is going to be a lot if you are also adding in cheat meals, and trying to lose weight. Also, are those 6 miller lites, or 6 2xIPA's??

I'm not trying to discourage you at all, actually just the opposite! I just know that starting out is very hard, and the best way to succeed is to have a VERY specific plan. Any questions you have about workouts, or nutrition feel free to ask. I'm not saying I'm an expert by a lONG shot, but I have been doing this several years now, and have learned a lot through trial and error.
