I'm a. Middle aged and b. New to running, out of shape and just started
For my age; 44, averaging 9 minute miles would be great which is 56 minutes. I hope to be there by the end of the year.

10k time calculator
This is a neat link, you enter your age and the run length with the time you completed it in. It tells you where you fall within your age ranking.
My 59 minute 10k puts me in the top 49% of men my age. So just slightly worse than the average runners my age.
57 minutes will put me above average for runners my age
